Who, What, When
When does WRGDSM meet?
The book club generally meets the second Thursday of each month, although we do make changes to accommodate holidays. Please check our current season Meeting & Events page for upcoming dates.
Who runs WRGDSM?
WRGDSM is 100% volunteer-run. The group is lead by The Triumvirate, a group of 3 men who handle organizing the events and choosing the book list. They also control membership.
Is there a cost or application to join?
WRGDSM is an invitation-only book club. There is no application, but we do ask you to contact us (or a member who is a friend) before you attend so we know who you are.
The WRGDSM club meetings are 100% free, although we do ask everyone to bring either a snack or drink to share. There is often a nominal contribution we ask to offset costs for the annual BBQ event.
What is a club meeting like?
Members and guests meet at one member’s house. We begin and end each meeting with a prayer. The person leading the meeting (generally one of the The Triumvirate, but occasionally a minion) may have a list of questions to guide the discussion, but we often don’t need them to keep the conversation going.
Everyone brings snacks or a beverage to share and it’s generally a very merry time.
Is the WRGDSM affiliated with any other book clubs?
No, WRGDSM is a totally unaffiliated club, original to the Des Moines area. We create our own book lists and set our own schedule.
Who is WRGDSM for?
WRGDSM serves adult Catholic men in the Des Moines and surrounding areas.
Are women invited to the meetings?
No.
Are teens invited to the meetings?
We encourage men to bring their teenage sons to any of the meetings that are indicated as “teen appropriate” on the book list.
I’m not Catholic, can I attend?
Yes! While our mission is to serve Catholic men, we welcome non-Catholic men to our meetings on an invitation-only basis. If you have a Catholic friend inviting you to come, please do!
